ANTIGUAS ESCUELAS GRADUADAS, LA UNION | COMPETITION FINALIST 2022 | MARTINO PEÑA, ANA SÁNCHEZ| 2022 | 300m²
The old building has been used as a school since its construction in 1903. Designed by the Murcian architect Pedro Cerdán, it will be renovated to adapt it to other uses. Due to the cultural tradition of the Town Hall of La Unión, where the internationally known Cante de las Minas is celebrated, it was decided to dedicate it to a multifunctional building around Flamenco singing and its parallel activities. The concept of UKRAINIAN DOLLS or MATRIOSKA is used to generate the proposal by emptying the old pavilions and creating a new energetic skin. The new parts are conceived within each other, developing the required functional programme.
